Interested in joining us?

Prospective new members for the choir are always welcome. Check out our rehearsal schedule and rehearsal venue and simply turn up for one of our rehearsals.

You can come along for a few weeks to see how you like us (and vice versa, of course) before we ask for any payment or commitment.

The choir does not routinely audition prospective members. As long as you can sing in tune and are willing to do a bit of homework to learn your notes if you are not a sight-reader you can qualify!

To become a full member, you will be asked to complete a simple enrolment form, click here to download it.

Membership Information

Eltham choral Society has a present membership of some 100 singers divided into four sections; Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass. Each section is subdivided into first and second voices for works scored for divided parts or two choirs

The choir season runs from September to the beginning of July and there is normally a break at Christmas and at Easter. We periodically go on tour and participate in various events around the community. Here we are singing Christmas carols on Eltham High Street for Demelza.

New members' level of musical ability doesn’t matter - we have people with years of singing experience and wide musical knowledge, and people who have never sung in a classical concert before or who can’t read music.

Enthusiasm for classical choral music, a willingness to do a bit of homework to learn your notes when necessary, and the enthusiasm to sell tickets to everyone you know are the only entry criteria - there is no audition though from time to time, simple voice tests may be carried out to review section placement.

Rehearsals are structured so you can become familiar with both the notes and the musical interpretation as you go along. Where possible learning resources are identified to help you practise at home - more information on this can be found on the members' notice board. Music scores are normally available to hire or to buy from the first rehearsals of the session.

If you are interested in joining us, ideally you would come along to one of the first three rehearsals of each term but any rehearsal is OK (though you may not be ready to sing in the next concert). You will be introduced to the voice representative for your section (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) who will be able to answer any questions and make you feel at home.

Once you have decided to join, you will need to complete an enrolment form and pay your subscription. You become a member of the Society when you pay a subscription and continue to be so until your subscription expires. Following this, if you do not renew your membership, you enter the status of associate member until the end of the following academic year. After this we remove your data except that which we are legally obliged to hold.

Payment of the subscription constitutes agreement to abide by the Society's Constitution and Data Protection Policy which can be inspected on our About the Choir page.

Normal Concert Dress is:

Safeguarding

Eltham Choral Society recognises its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of young people and children with whom it works and comes into contact and believes all participating young people have the right to enjoy the activities of the Choir in a happy, safe and secure environment. Our Safeguarding Policy requires that children under the age of 18 must have the written permission of their parent or guardian to join ECS, and both the child and parent/guardian must complete the enrolment form. The full Safeguarding Policy is available for inspection here

The society has a Designated Safeguarding Officer in respect of safeguarding who is the principal person children should turn to if they have any concerns or queries.
