The sun shone in Eltham yesterday, at least metaphorically, at St Mary’s Community Centre in Eltham as a capacity audience, including several members of ECS, enjoyed a wonderfully diverse programme of music played by the Vivanda Quartet. There was something for everyone ranging from Haydn and Vivaldi to modern classics such as the Beatles’ Here Comes the Sun and Arlen’s Over the Rainbow. It was impossible not to smile listening to Boccherini’s Minuet made so famous by the glorious Ealing comedy “The Lady Killers” and this time we got to hear more that the opening few bars!
Part of the delight was the informative introduction of all the pieces by one of the quartet Miriam Crozier, emeritus conductor of ECS and valued supporter. Well done to St Mary’s Community Centre for hosting this Friday series of free concerts.
It was the second musical treat for some ECS members who also attended the LSO’s Symphony Chorus and Orchestra’s performance of the Brahms’ German Requiem last Sunday evening at the Barbican Centre. It was inspiration indeed for ECS who are performing the same work, in collaboration with the Holy Trinity Consort Choir, at Holy Trinity Church Sloane Square on Saturday 18 April 2026.
